本片是比利时导演大卫·兰伯特（David Lambert）自编自导的第一部剧情长片，讲述年轻钢琴家与低音提琴手共谱浪漫恋曲，但幸福时光却因一场突如其来的意外而中止、徒留遗憾的故事。大学时主修语言与罗马文学的大卫·兰伯特，在正式成为导演前是当地颇具盛名的编剧，2009年因首次执导微电影获奖而声名远播。《四壁之外》入围第65届戛纳电影节国际影评人周单元。
