法国影片《冒险的代价》主要描写了某电视台为了吸引观众，提高收视率，别出心裁的搞了一个“有奖冒险”节目，以高达两百万美元的奖金来引诱人们用自己宝贵的生命去做为赌注。失业青年弗朗索瓦不愿再过着贫穷的生活，不顾女友拉萨的反对，执意报名参加了“有奖冒险”。他幸运的在初赛“空中摆擂”中获胜，获得了作为“逃亡者”参赛的资格。在节目中他多次获得了陌生人的帮助，才暂时逃避了五名追杀者的追捕。但当他从节目制片罗朗斯的口中得知那些陌生人都是电台有意安排为的只是能使节目能播放4小时，他最终将会被追杀者杀死的时候，他终于明白“有奖冒险”只是个骗局。为了向观众们公布事实的真相，弗朗索瓦在杀死了几名追杀者后，持枪来到了电视直播现场，但等待着他的是被送入疯人院的结局。
