曾几何时，一个人只身前往世界尽头。在那里，在新近独立的南美一隅，他创立了自己的王国。这就是1860年，法国冒险家Orllie-Antoine de Tounens的故事，也许有几分疯狂。他用自己起草的宪法和他所扛起旗帜的庇护自己，从马背上的崎岖旷野杀出了一条血路。抵达那里之后，他想方设法团结起本地人并当选为统治者。至少，这是这个真实的故事的一个版本。换言之，他只是一个与当地叛徒里应外合的家伙。他是一个法国间谍！他成功了，但被抓捕，被放逐，最后死亡。但是，到头来呢？谁记得在哪里，发生过什么？在《国王》这部影片里，消退的图像和退化的声音述说着历史和记忆。
