喜剧演员巴迪人称“星期六晚上先生”，他经常出现在星期六晚上的电视节目里，以脍炙人口的表演“别叫我现在开始”及犹太人辛辣的幽默感带给人们欢乐。巴迪不觉回忆起和斯坦第一次登台表演的情景，他们原打算表演，但因斯坦突然怯场，巴迪只得将节目改为独唱，表演却取得惊人的成功。从此，巴迪走上了演艺之路，而兄弟斯坦则成了他的助理。后来巴迪与一个叫伊莱恩的女人结婚，生了女儿苏珊。巴迪进入老年后，朋友菲尔代理巴迪的事务。分派给巴迪的女经纪人安妮为他找到在一个电视广告片中担任演员的工作，但他令大家很失望。巴迪参加一部重要影片的试演，但最终落选了。巴迪感到十分沮丧，和斯坦发生了激烈的口角。过了一段时间，斯坦来到巴迪演出现场，并送给他一份表示他和解愿望的礼物—— 一幅表现他们兄弟同台演出的图画。
