自幼希望成为黑社会的石川力夫（渡哲也 饰）1940年加入河田组。石川为组织之壮大卖命打拼，但也因其狂暴激进的脾气而始终不得重用，心存愤懑。
战后，石川与在北海道狱中结识的好友今井幸三郎（梅宫辰夫 饰）向中国帮派发起进攻，战争中石川结识酒肆侍女地惠子（多岐川裕美 饰）。凭借警方纵容，今井接管中国人赌场，成立今井组。石川刺伤池袋亲和会成员，两派剑拔弩张，河田组长出钱请美国人干预摆平。不久石川因受训斥，炸毁河田组上层领导野津幸三郎（安藤升 饰）之坐驾，接二连三祸事令河田对石川大加挞伐。石川酒醉后刺伤组长，犯黑帮大忌，被黑社会逐出东京10年。于大阪染上毒瘾的石川一年后返回东京，受河田压力的今井与石川关系破裂，石川将枪口对准了昔日结拜兄弟的胸口……
