1986年4月26日，位于切尔诺贝利核电站几公里处的普里皮亚季小镇。
在这个明媚的春天里，安雅和彼得正在举行婚礼，小瓦列里与他当核电站工程师的父亲阿列克谢种下了一颗苹果树，森林看管员尼古拉照例在森林中巡视...就在此时，一场事故在核电站发生了。彼得被征召去扑灭大火，就再也没有回来。
受到这场灾难的影响，放射性物质将大自然顷刻变了样。当地居民突然被疏散。被当局要求封口的阿列克谢，宁愿消失...
10年后。
被居民们废弃的鬼城普里皮亚季，成了无人之地，这座现代的庞贝被建成了一个奇特的旅游之地...
今天的安雅成了这里的导游，而瓦列里在这里寻找他的父亲，尼古拉则继续耕作着他那有毒的花园。
