杰克（杰克·莱蒙 Jack Lemmon 饰）和妻子贝蒂（奥林匹亚·杜卡基斯 Olympia Dukakis 饰）结婚已经几十年之久了，在这几十年里，贝蒂把杰克照顾的无比的周到，杰克也早已经习惯了被妻子安排得井井有条的生活。然而意外发生了，一天，贝蒂因为突发心脏病而住进了医院，得知此消息，在外打拼的孩子们纷纷回到了父母的身边。
