布拉德是生活在加州马里布市的一个白人孩子，但是他却着迷于美国黑人的饶舌乐，认为自己是整个马里布最热的饶舌歌手，还管自己叫"B-拉德"。每天他和几个同伴一起玩音，虽出身当地一个显赫的白人家庭，说的却全是黑人贫民窟小孩的"黑话"，满嘴跑俚语。他幻想自己是贫民区的孩子，觉得黑帮分子的生活新鲜刺激，十分向往。他的这种怪癖让他的家人很是受不了。
布拉德的父亲比尔正在竞选加州州长，布拉德于是热心为父亲出谋划策，可是他编的那些竞选口号充满了上流社会所不齿的词汇，他的歌曲更是令大家不安。再这样下去只怕竞选会活活给毁了。为了让布拉德改变眼下这种不靠谱的态度，竞选助手给比尔出谋划策，决定给布拉德一个教训，让他看看清楚，自己有没有饶舌歌手的才华，而黑帮生活是不是真那么有趣。
于是一出活剧上演了。比尔找来了两个失业的演员肖恩和PJ，让他们扮演黑帮分子，假装绑架布拉德，把他带到真正的黑人街区，让他尝尝真实生活的滋味。布拉德却不是那么轻易就会被折服的。他也许不切实际，但他的热情感染了一路碰到的人，包括一个南方的漂亮姑娘。
