史托佛一家有三兄弟，小弟马歇尔德是两个哥哥欺负嘲笑的对象，但是在1967年，马歇尔12岁的那一年夏天，所有的事情都不一样了......史托佛夫妇买了一台二手的16毫米摄影机，为男孩们开拓了视野，他们发现了比捉弄弟弟更有趣的事。透过摄影机的镜头，他们才知道原来住家附近的树林间，有着许多美丽奇妙的野生生物，并深深为此情此景所感动，于是他们决定进一步记录美国即将消失的野生世界。那年夏天，三兄弟踏上了探险之旅，一路上，他们遇到形形色色的危险生物与人类种族，并曾有多次在野地死里逃生的经验，但是，即使面对着饥饿的鳄鱼，忿怒的大熊，他们仍不忘记摄影机的带子继续转动。三兄弟从这趟冒险之旅中，学习到如何尊重大自然，及彼此信任的真谛。
