故事从一场婚礼开始，驳船亚特兰大号的船长迎娶了漂亮的乡下姑娘朱丽叶。婚后，朱丽叶开始了全新的船上生活。一开始她对船上生活感到新鲜有趣，和丈夫的相处也甜甜蜜蜜，然而很快她便厌倦了这种单调枯燥的生活，渐渐地向往起大城市巴黎的热闹繁华。船长为了满足朱丽叶，将亚特兰大号开往巴黎。
然而期间发生种种波折，导致船长迟迟没有带朱丽叶去巴黎，二人的矛盾日渐加深。不久，朱丽叶悄悄离开了亚特兰大号，独自去了巴黎，船长得知后生气地驾船而去。分开后船长对朱丽叶无限思念，终日神不守舍。孤零零一人流落在巴黎的朱丽叶，最终会选择留在灯红酒绿的巴黎，还是回到亚特兰大号上，回到深爱自己的丈夫身边？
