妮丝（海莉贝瑞）与玛吉（娜塔莉黛丝莉）是两个女服务生，两人梦想合开一家融合餐饮与美容沙龙的餐厅，但却没有足够的钱。一日妮丝在报上看到饶舌歌手征人的消息，获胜者不但能演出音乐录像带，还可赢得一万元美金。于是两人带着所有家当前往洛衫矶参加试镜，但却不幸落选，正当两人不知何去何从时，该片导演布莱克（马丁兰道）的侄子曼利（伊恩理察森）竟邀请她们俩回家，并要求妮丝假扮女管家莉莉的孙女。原来莉莉是布莱克先生多年前失去的旧爱，现在却碍于她女管家的身份，而无法再度追求她，因此痛苦不已。曼利之所以这么做，其实是为了想成为布莱克先生的唯一继承人，但他的阴谋却无法得逞，因为妮丝和玛吉竟与古怪的布莱克先生培养出深厚的友谊，他教导这两个小女人社交礼仪，她们则让他重新燃起对生命的渴望。片中有许多体坛与乐界的名人客串演出。
