SellWalker(BlairUnderwood饰)就是当时DefJam创始人RussellSimmons在片中的化身。影片由MichaelSchultz导演，Simmons出任此片的联合制片人和情节顾问，同时他还在片中客串出演了一个叫做Crocket的酒吧老板。
在影片中，RussellWalker为KrushGroove唱片公司签下了当时所有的热门歌手，包括Run-D.M.C.、KurtisBlow和Dr.Jeckyll&Mr.Hyde。RickRubin是他们的制作人。而当Run-D.M.C.做出了一张经典专辑后，Russell却没有钱为他们推广专辑，于是他向一个街头混混提出借钱。与此同时，Russell和他的兄弟Run又同时爱上了R&B歌手SheilaE。在这部影片中出演的嘻哈艺人还包括了LLCoolJ,BeastieBoys,NewEdition和theFatBoys等。R&B组合FullForce则在影片中出演了一群保镖。
