故事发生在1849年，“淘金热”的来袭让世界发生了翻天覆地的变化。投机商人迪伦（彼得·穆兰 Peter Mullan 饰）凭借着自己的手腕和智慧，成为了加州小镇中富有到足以一手遮天的所在，就连平日里高高在上的妓院老板娘露西亚（米拉·乔沃维奇 Milla Jovovich 饰）都无法抵御黄金的诱惑，主动对迪伦投怀送抱。
