本部好莱坞著名导演乔治·库克执导的1935年影片《大卫·科波菲尔》，根据英国小说家查尔斯·狄更斯经典同名小说改编。制片人塞尔兹尼克说服了疑虑重重的米高梅公司老板L.梅耶来拍摄狄更斯的这部小说。本片呈现出1930年代早期电影的严谨制作和豪华明星阵容，荣获第八届奥斯卡最佳电影、最佳导演和最佳剪辑提名，第三届威尼斯电影节金狮奖提名。
