◎简 介
在船桥市郊外的蔬菜市场，蔬菜店老板春三认识了中国留学生李中山，才知道原来中国留学生的生活很辛苦，于是决定帮助他们。一开始他只是随便做点好事，后来渐渐升级，连自己的生活也牺牲掉了。学生们都非常敬仰他，叫他“日本爸爸”。但是春三不管买卖的话，老婆美智的负担就加重了，结果商店和家庭都出现了危机。“能让商店就这么垮掉么？”留学生们决定帮店里干活。春三和美智流下了感动的泪水。几年后，回到中国的李中山从北京打来一个国际电话，邀请春三和美智访问中国。
影片根据真实故事改编，温馨幽默，生动展现了日本小镇郊区的生活和小人物的喜怒哀乐，表达了中日友谊。为了让场景生动真实，导演经常设置几人在一起说话的情景，话题又往往不同，语言不通的观众或许会对字幕感到眼花缭乱。导演大林宣彦是日本80年代新电影的重要导演之一，在《电影旬报》评选的80年代十大最佳导演中与铃木清顺、黑泽明并列第七。本片获1989年《电影旬报》十佳奖第六名。
