硕士生玛尼回到家乡魁北克北部的原住民保留区，她许多痛苦的回忆再次涌现，但为了重新融入这个群体，她积极参与当地居民所发起关于酒精饮品自由买卖的公投案。而贩卖私酒的萝拉在丈夫雷蒙德及区委会的保护下顺利中饱私囊。除了萝拉与玛尼势如水火，雷蒙德也是仍对玛尼耿耿于怀，认为玛尼应该对当年他女儿葬身火场的事情负责。两个对立的女人迅速使这个区域分成两派，她们必须正面交锋，决定此地区独立的最佳途径。
导演Caroline Monnet是一位当代艺术家，这是她执导的第一部剧情长片，剧情讲述一个位于魁北克北部的原住民保留区其禁酒令及走私的关系，并且质疑了区域自治的必要性。导演透过镜头，借由职业演员、素人演员与这个区域的对话，来呈现敏感的议题。
