梅秀（托比·琼斯 Toby Jones 饰）被指派成为了雷纳德的辩护律师，刚开始，他并不相信自己的委托人是清白的，但随着对雷纳德了解的加深，梅秀渐渐被这位年轻人的真诚给打动了。雷纳德告诉梅秀自己有不在场证明。
