丹娜（安娜蕾·提普顿 Analeigh Tipton 饰）孤身一人离开家乡来到繁华的大都市纽约，准备在这里迎接全新的美好生活。丹娜热情，开朗，总是给人一种积极正面的阳光形象，可是没有人知道，在她的内心里时常充满了自卑的情绪，觉得和这个城市、和周围的人格格不入。
艾米（Jade Catta-Preta 饰）和丈夫大卫（尼古拉斯·怀特 Nicolas Wright 饰）是一对常人眼中的模范夫妻，作为丹娜曾经最好的朋友，两人的爱巢成为了丹娜的临时住所。不仅如此，艾米还将大卫的弟弟皮特（杰克·麦克道曼 Jake McDorman 饰）介绍给了丹娜认识，希望能够促成一段姻缘。可是，很显然，丹娜和皮特的第一次约会并不如想象中那么愉快，甚至可以用糟糕来形容，不过，自信的皮特深信，出问题的那一方绝对不是自己。
