改编自漫画鬼才谷古实的同名漫画作品，以描绘连环杀人犯森田与高中时代的同学冈田再会，并图谋杀害冈田暗恋的女性由香的故事为主轴，糅合了世间不合理的感情、恋爱、友情等要素，是一部著名的暗黑向漫画作品。谷古实之所以会被称为漫画鬼才，除了其作品人物堪称清奇的画风，还有充满想象力的荒诞无厘头剧情。而从同样被改为电影的《庸才》开始，谷古实逐渐展露出对于严肃题材的掌控能力，这部《白昼之雨》当年发表时就曾引起轰动。作为一部剧情片，有了优秀的故事做底，大概也就成了七分了。
