《人面鱼：红衣小女孩外传》改编自台湾乡野传说“人面鱼“，1990年代有人在高雄县冈山镇（今高雄市冈山区）出游钓起一尾吴郭鱼（罗非鱼），烧烤食用时却听到诡异的声音询问：“鱼肉好吃否？”之后其拍摄的照片鱼的上头还浮现人脸，令当事人毛骨悚然，不过事件本身有诸多疑点被认为是无根据的谣传。
