1970年代，美国。导演通过长达12年的时间跨度，通过多件谋杀案展示了Jack这位高智商连环杀手的心路演变。全片围绕Jack的视角展开。在他眼中，他的每次谋杀都堪称一件艺术作品。随着警察的调查迫近，他每次犯案都要承受越来越大的风险，以打造出自己心目中的终极艺术品。通过与一位名叫Verge的陌生人的反复对话，我们得以逐渐了解Jack对谋杀的艺术性诠释，这是一种残酷与高雅的交融，一种近乎孩童的自我怜悯，也是他精神变态的缘由。《The House That Jack Built》以一种哲学式的，有时乃至诙谐的叙述手法讲述了一段阴郁残虐的故事。
