2006年4月20日戛纳官方第一次公布19部正式竞赛片名单的时候，外界就普遍猜测还会有第20部影片在最后一刻加入战团。果然，一周之后，戛纳组委会就宣布来自阿根廷的《逃亡编年史》将从“一种关注”单元抽调到正式竞赛单元。
那么，执导《逃往编年史》的这个神秘来客到底是谁？他就是当今阿根廷最重要导演之一的亚德里安·卡泰诺。卡泰诺1969年生于乌拉圭，早年靠拍摄短片起家，1997年拍摄长片处女作《比萨、啤酒和香烟》一炮而红，之后就活跃在电影、电视界，2001年的《玻利维亚》参加戛纳影评人周单元，2002年他的《红熊》参加了戛纳电影节的导演双周单元，此番推出的《逃亡编年史》在阿根廷局部试映后好评如潮，热情的观众纷纷预测它为明年奥斯卡最佳外语片的有力竞争者。
影片根据阿根廷现代史上的真实事件改编：1977年白色恐怖时期，一个为阿根廷武装政府服务的别动队成员绑架了某B级足球队的守门员，并将其关押到郊区一座贵族古堡中，一同关押在那里的还包括另外几位年轻人。4个月后，守门员和另外两人趁暴雨袭击时跳窗逃走，全身赤裸的他们开始了不同寻常的旅程。
