故事发生在80年代挑战者号航天飞机爆炸事故之前的那段时间，颇具天赋的纽约报社记者Campbell Babbitt，因恋人自杀而情绪低落，惹恼了总编，被惩罚性的安排到这个宇航小镇作一个个简单的采访。来到小镇后，想起了大学同窗Sam在当地执教，便试图联系Sam希望能得到一些帮助，而意外的发现Sam在不久前刚刚去世，在学校和葬礼时，与Sam的学生们接触后，觉得是个不错的新闻材料，便在获得总编首肯后，开始把自己融入这些学生的生活中，开始了解这些问题学生的生活，了解Sam与这些学生之间的爱，并在最后发现了Sam的真正死因。
这是一部独立制作的影片，有很多隐晦的表达，很有创意和新意，如果作为一部简单的娱乐片，不用心看是很不容易懂的，特别是在歧义的中文字幕误导下。
