茉莉（歌蒂·韩 Goldie Hawn 饰）原本是小镇女子田径队的教练，在和丈夫弗兰克（詹姆斯·基彻 James Keach 饰）离婚之后，性格倔强的茉莉独自抚养着两个孩子。一天，茉莉受到了艾德瓦斯先生（Nipsey Russell 饰）的邀请，来到中心高中，成为了那里的橄榄球队“野猫队”的教练，虽然弗兰克对于茉莉的选择非常的不支持，但是茉莉还是坚信自己能够胜任。让茉莉没有想到的是，“野猫队”的队员们确确实实是一群难以管教的小野猫，她们不仅毫无组织纪律性，而且对橄榄球这项运动早已经失去了兴趣。在经历了起初的磨合后，茉莉帮助队员们找回了希望，“野猫队”在校队间的比赛中大放光彩。
