寺庙住持的独生子井上广树是个酷爱摄影的高中二年级学生，而母亲达子总是嘱咐他做作业、练钢琴，让他十分不耐烦。他爱慕着隔壁女校的橘百合子，总在放学后用望远镜看她弹钢琴，因其寂寥的神情，广树将其称作“寂寞人”。庙里大扫除的时候，广树和朋友们不小心弄乱了母亲少女时代的照片。第二天，班上出现了一个奇怪的女同学，外号叫作“寂寞人”。同学们到广树家玩，“寂寞人”和达子发生口角，奇怪的是打了她，达子反而会感到疼痛。广树终于抓住机会结识了百合子，两人相处甚欢。然而情人节那天，广树却收到了百合子要求分手的信。同时，“寂寞人”也来拜访向广树告别。两天后，达子在走廊上拣到一张自己16岁时的照片，广树一瞥之间竟发觉照片上的正是“寂寞人”……大林宣彦监督「尾道三部曲」第三部，本片根据山中恒的小说《有点奇怪的她》改编，讲述了一个甘美青涩的青春幻想故事。
