1944年，被在第二次世界大战的战火弥漫的英国伦敦。萨拉.斯科特（拉娜.特纳饰）是一个在伦敦做战地采访的美国新闻女记者，她在这里爱上了另一位年轻的新闻记者--BBC（英国广播电视台）记者马克.泰勒（肖恩.康纳利饰）。萨拉向马克吐露了真情，但马克不能接受她，因为他是一个有家室的男人，他有一个妻子和一个孩子，他们幸福的居住在英格兰康沃尔郡的小村庄中，因此马克拒绝了她。一次，马克被上司派到最危险的地方去做采访，谁知一架飞机坠毁使马克死于非命，萨拉知道这件事情后精神失常，等萨拉康复痊愈过来之后她下定决心：前往康沃尔郡马克的家......这是肖恩.康纳利第一次挑大梁的一部战争爱情悲剧。该片的女主角拉娜.特纳是四、五十年代好莱坞著名女星，1958年拉娜.特纳指定当时名不见经传的肖恩.康纳利为他这部新戏的男主角。
