安妮（洛特·弗贝克 Lotte Verbeek 饰）是一个个性倔强的女孩，平凡的生活和拥挤的城市让她几欲窒息，绝望之中，她背上行囊，开始了寻找自我的特殊旅程。在旅途中，安妮结识了和自己有着相似气味的男子马丁（斯蒂芬·瑞 Stephen Rea 饰），两人之间的距离越走越近。敏感的安妮发现了这段关系中的危险和缺陷，她向马丁提出了要求，要求两人只做旅伴，不谈感情。在同行的途中，安妮和马丁都加深了对彼此的了解，可绝望的力量是如此的强大，即便是安妮的感情也无法让马丁获得灵魂的救赎，最终他还是选择了死亡。马丁的死给予了安妮沉重的一击，但也让她开始思考起了死亡与生存的真正意义，背负着马丁的灵魂，安妮选择远走他乡，开始新的生活。
