本片描绘了法国南部蓝色海岸天堂般的美景及其鲜为人知的另一面。天堂在哪里？有人说就在法国南部的蓝色海岸，那里总是有美丽的阳光、细软的沙滩和成群的游人，甚至英国女王、大画家毕加索都忍受不住这里美景的诱惑。在裸体主义者独占的岛屿上，马儿在海边悠然踱步，游人赤身裸体躺在沙滩上晒太阳。这一切似乎告诉人们：这里离天堂很近。然而影片告诉人们：这一切都是错觉，这里不属于当地人，那些不远万里赶来的游人也都是冒牌的亚当和夏娃，因为这个天堂是上着锁的。本片以一个左翼知识分子的视角详细描摹了法国土地上这块特殊的“飞地”，令人想起维果的《尼斯的景象》，这两部影片确实有异曲同工之妙，区别在于本片比较含蓄，《尼斯的景象》比较凌厉，本片导演阿涅斯·瓦尔达1928年生于比利时首都布鲁塞尔。1954年，她在没有受过任何电影教育的情况下拍摄的电影处女作《短岬村》震撼了法国影坛，成为新浪潮电影的先声作品，她本人也因此被尊为“新浪潮之母”。时至今日，她的艺术创造力依然不减，不断创作出新的富有震撼力的作品（如完成于2000年的纪录片《拾荒者》，参见单万里《DV时代的新浪潮之母--纪念阿涅斯·瓦尔达从影50周年》，载《当代电影》杂志2004年第3期）。
