本片根据魔幻小说的创始人美国作家霍华德?菲利浦?勒夫卡夫特的作品《死亡之书》中的几则短篇故事改编，并荣获1994年意大利罗马奇幻电影节最佳特效奖、1994年葡萄牙奇幻电影节国际奇幻电影奖最佳特效奖。
