法兰克（大卫史瑞登饰）小时候，亲眼目睹父亲在某次特技表演中发生意外而成为植物人，还被二名恶律师诈骗保险金，从此法兰克的老妈便禁止家人接触任何危险事物。成年后的法兰克担任保险调查员，立志拆穿恶律师的诈财把戏；而为了避免危险，他总是做好全身防护，依照工作手册行事。没想到他的搭档竟意外死亡！他为了查出命案实情，法兰克不惜牺牲色相，多次变装调查，而在一连串惊险又妙趣横生的缉凶行动中，他和新任女搭档之间的情愫，也正悄悄地滋长……
