作家罗伯特（内森·菲利安 Nathan Fillion饰）带着妻子莫莉（坎德拉·韦斯特Chandra West饰）来到郊外湖畔的小屋里度假。莫莉曾经因女儿溺水身亡而对水有着无尽的恐惧，并一直活在阴霾的心情当中。此次度假，正是为了让她散散心透透气，却想不到遇上了一桩复杂离奇的案件。

一天，罗伯特偶然看见一名警员正欲枪杀一个生命垂危的女子蕾（艾玛奴勒·瓦吉尔Emmanuelle Vaugier 饰），慌乱中罗伯特勇敢地救下了蕾，并意外杀死了警员。据蕾后来所说，警员叫多德，强行侵犯了她并要杀她灭口，罗伯特没有太多的怀疑，只是对现场警车上有20万现金，以及蕾和当地市长的亲密照片，令罗伯特对此感到不解。

然而，事情远远没有罗伯特想象中的简单。蕾、多德、市长、20万现金、照片，这内里的关系，让罗伯特一家陷入了前所未有的危险中。
