本片是奥斯卡奖得主比利鲍伯松顿，继【弹簧刀】后，第二度自编、自导自演的电影。叙述克劳（比利鲍伯松顿饰演）和他太太露比（罗拉邓饰演）这对欢喜冤家的故事。他们非常恩爱，但也常吵闹不休，似乎以互相折磨伤害，来补偿彼此的怨怼。当克劳的叔叔海索被捕入狱的消息传来，他们回到小岩城的老家，想助他一臂之力。这庞大的家族重聚之后，三姑六婆也到齐，一切意料不到的事都可能发生……。

有趣的是，本片剧中人物的角色关系纠葛复杂，但戏外演员之间的情谊关系，也不惶多让。如现实生活中，巨星约翰屈伏塔的演员妻子凯莉普莱丝登（【征服情海】）这回饰演“露比”（罗拉邓饰演）的风骚姊姊 “玫瑰”，片中“玫瑰”因为是“露比”老公“克劳”的前女友，使得每次“玫瑰”一出现，“露比”就要醋劲大发，慎防老公与老姊旧情复燃；老牌影星黛安赖德饰演“露比”唠叨的妈妈“珠儿”，其实黛安赖德就是罗拉邓的亲生妈妈，这对母女档演员，这回是继【我心狂野】【激情玫瑰】后，再度于银幕上饰演母女。

至于洁美李寇蒂丝〔【魔鬼大帝】【月光光心慌慌】〕和影坛帅哥班艾佛列克〔【珍珠港】【世界末日】〕，则饰演在小岩城开业的夫妻档律师，片中洁美李的大女人强悍，对比于班艾佛列克的小男人窝囊，令人不禁联想起当年曾在小岩城执业的另一对夫妻档律师──希拉蕊与小柯。
