在春天的佛罗里达海滩上，诞生了一只小海龟（菲比 饰）。她生来就没有母亲照顾，也几乎没有防御能力，但却有一股强劲的求生意志。努力爬越过数十公尺远的沙滩后，小海龟终于纵身跃入了海里，自此展开一趟已持续了数百万年的生命之旅。

彷彿天生就装了罗盘和地图，小海龟果决地一路朝向目的地──非洲的亚速尔群岛前进。幼小又胆小的她，却只敢和小鱼群窝在海草里，她想藉着墨西哥湾洋流，载她前往梦幻的国度－大西洋。没想到这路上诸多坎坷：她曾因过度饥饿，误食了飘浮的塑料袋，也一度遭到加拿大巨浪卷走，她更遇见过凶猛的大青鲨，所幸大青鲨并没攻击她，两人并深信未来将会有重逢的一天。

在遨游了七千公里后，小海龟也渐渐长大了。六岁的她，不但如愿来到了亚速尔群岛海域，也认识了许多新朋友，更意外和已怀孕、变得温柔了许多的大青鲨重逢，使她的旅行变得更丰收。悠游了十多年后，小海龟却决定要重新游回她的出生地－佛罗里达海滩。总计费时25年游遍整个大西洋的她，为什么一定要回游呢？她又背负着什么样的神圣使命呢？而这趟总长有一万多公里的旅行，在最后的四千公里中，又会发生哪些不可思议的事呢？《在海里飞翔》将告诉你一个从不为人知、却充满了无限勇气和传奇的感人故事…
