《哈姆雷特》是莎士比亚最著名的悲剧，讲述了丹麦国王被弟弟毒害，之后凶手篡权夺位，并娶了嫂嫂王后。王子哈姆雷特悲愤不已，秘密策划复仇大计，然而他个性当中的犹豫迟疑最终导致整个事情走向了悲剧。

《奥菲莉娅》根据丽莎·克莱恩（Lisa Klein）同名获奖小说改编，故事从原剧中处于边缘地带的女性角色奥菲莉娅的视角出发，描写了她眼中的哈姆雷特、她和哈姆雷特的悲剧爱情宿命，已经她和哈姆雷特母亲之间的关系。

其中戴茜·雷德利将饰演主角“奥菲莉娅”（Ophelia），她是王后的心腹侍女，也是王子哈姆雷特的秘密爱人；娜奥米·沃茨则将饰演哈姆雷特的妈妈、也就是王后乔特鲁德（Queen Gertrude）。

《奥菲莉娅》由新晋女导演克莱尔·麦卡锡（Claire McCarthy）执导，影片和小说一样，故事背景仍然设定在14世纪，但人物的语言都是现代话。
