这部三小时的Syfy迷你剧根据罗伯特·路易斯·斯蒂文森的同名小说改编，Eddie Izzard、Elijah Wood、Donald Sutherland、Shirley Henderson、Nina Sosanya等著名演员参与演出。

十岁大男孩Jim Hawkins（Toby Regbo扮演）与自己母亲（Shirley Henderson扮演）原本乡下经营一家旅馆。直到有一天，他从来到酒店的一个垂危海盗水手Billy Bones（David Harewood扮演）手中得到一份传说中的藏宝岛，于是他在Livesey医生（Daniel Mays扮演）的鼓励下联合当地乡绅支援组织了一支探险队准备前往金银岛。

他们的这一举动引起了一群心怀不轨的海盗们的注意，阴森诡谲的独脚海盗头子Long John Silver（Eddie Izzard扮演）应征船上厨师，他的手下也上船充当水手。到达金银岛时，Jim遇到在荒岛上独处三年的海盗水手Ben Gunn（Elijah Wood扮演），而此时Silver则发动叛变占据帆船，而吉姆在被提上帆船危急时却被Silver出手相救，因而跟其他海盗发生矛盾。最后Livesey医生与Ben合作遏制住了海盗并也成功取得宝藏。

英国演员Donald Sutherland在片中扮演海盗船长Flint，而英国演员Phillip Glenister在片中扮演Smollet船长。
