在这个系列3个小时的纪录片，训练有素的海洋生物学家和前皇家海军陆战队Monty Halls 探索澳大利亚大堡礁。这个非同寻常的水下生态系统，是世界自然奇观之一，是地球上最大的生态结构。

为了揭开2300公里大堡礁的秘密，Monty Halls从珊瑚海野外珊瑚礁到海岸的红树林和热带雨林，并从大山区海岛到略高于海平面的微小的珊瑚群岛。

该系列是水下拍摄技术的新标杆。远程微型摄像头，运动控制的遥控车携带的摄像机能够捕获的珊瑚礁从未看过的神奇镜头。BBC的自然史部门制作的这一系列的高清纪录片定树立了自然生物方面的奇迹，在同样的题材上比其他电视台更加详细地揭露了叹为观止的珊瑚礁。
