当洁玛突然成为她失去双亲的八岁侄女凯蒂（维奥莱特·麦格劳饰）的监护人之后，洁玛并不确定也没有准备好能够成为一个好的家长，加上她的工作压力非常巨大，于是就决定将她设计的人工智能玩具人偶梅根和凯蒂配对，试图解决照顾凯蒂这个孤儿和纾解她工作压力这两个问题，但是她的这个决定却造成无法想像的严重后果。
