海滨的小屋里，年轻的纳尔太太带着10个月的女婴西芙拉，在寂寞中等待着在巴黎工作的丈夫。一个陌生的女游客出现在她的窗前，要求在她家门前的露天借一块地方搭帐篷。纳尔太太犹豫着答应了。晚上，她还请女游客共进晚餐，并在饭桌上回忆起当年单身时旅行的奇遇。随着渐渐熟悉，两个女人带着 孩子一起去海滨、一起进餐，纳尔太太大度地让女游客使用自己的卫生间，对方也在纳尔太太进城时帮她照顾孩子。彼此间还有了一点微妙的吸引。两人也有各自的秘密。几天后的一个早上，纳尔先生回来了，屋里空无一人。不远处，一艘行驶的游轮熙熙攘攘，一位女性抱着号啕大哭的西芙拉望着大海......
