故事讲述野鸟一次又一次被捕鸟人抓住、贩卖、放生，在有限的自由里挣扎求存。女人在男人主导的社会中求生，不由自主的命运同样可怜。自小跟着阿嬷在山林长大，常常看鸟儿飞翔、被抓、被放生、死亡，直至一天母亲接他到城市的公寓同住。在局促不安的城市中与母亲相依为命，但母亲也不过是一只渴求爱却受尽伤害的野鸟。为了生活，她当上伺候男人的「酒店妹」；为了爱情，她承受暴力遍体鳞伤。山林的氤氲困住飞鸟，城市的哀号囚禁灵魂。自由只是假象，世界终究是个更大的囚笼，母子也不过求片刻安身。
