赫梅（Benoît Poelvoorde 饰）在巴黎从事画作修补的工作，最近他觉察到妻子的状态反常，然而当他真的与情敌面对面的时候，懦弱的性格却让他退出了竞争。同时在另一个时空中，蛮荒之地的一群奴隶在食人魔左坦与众仆从的强迫献祭下苦不堪言，他们唯一的希望，是预言中的救世主降临，把他们从左坦手中解放。

赫梅在他波折不断的生活中频频乱入另一世界，并开始顺应奴隶们的希望，带领他们反抗左坦。借助在现实世界中苦学《君主论》《三十六计》得到的理论知识，赫梅带领奴隶大军击退左坦的仆从，并建立了自己的独裁王国，一座富丽堂皇的城市在山谷间拔地而起，赫梅的气质也发生了一百八十度的转变。不久奴隶们难耐艰苦的工作开始怀念昔日时光，赫梅的地位发生动摇并选择回到现实世界解决自己真正的问题。
