《弃卒》剧本由斯蒂文·奈特（Steven Knight）创作，制片人盖尔·卡茨（Gail Katz）若干年前就开始为哥伦比亚公司筹划此片了，除他之外，传闻将主演该片的托比·马奎尔（Tobey Maguire）也将担任制片人。
