地球-银河系星球联邦的重镇，星际舰队总部的所在地。在位于北美洲旧金山的星际联邦舰队总部，寇克将军正像往常一样百无聊赖无所事事，突然间却接到了一个再好不过的命令检视企业号准备执行紧急任务。原来地球的防卫体系己经发现了那团高能离子云，而且侦测出它正对准地球飞来。寇克将军的任务，就是要赶在它到达地球之前，率领企业号先迎上去一探究竟。
