约翰·斯特奇斯导演的西部动作片，故事并不新鲜，但节奏紧凑，动作场面刺激俐落，两男一女的三角关係也增强了本片的戏剧张力。威廉·霍尔登饰演南北战争时代的南军上尉罗珀，奉命看守一群叛变的同侪。为了警告他们不要逃亡，因此採用相当残忍的手段来对付捉到的逃犯。埃莉诺·派克是南方来的间谍，表面上是参加堡垒指挥官女儿的婚礼，实际上却是要伺机帮助囚禁中的马殊上尉逃狱。她对罗珀採取色诱手段，成功救出马殊，但罗珀迅速追捕，跟他的情敌马殊作徒手肉博战之后将他制服。在重返堡垒途中，他们遇到印第安人拦腰截击，只好改变…
