电影《情迷彼得潘》是苏格兰著名童书《彼得潘》的衍生故事。在原故事中温蒂·达林被永远不会长大的男孩彼得潘带去梦幻岛冒险，她跟害怕寂寞的彼得潘约定自己永远不会长大，要一直陪伴彼得潘。后来他们和而梦幻岛的小伙伴击退了虎克船长，温蒂选择离开梦幻岛回到现实中长大成人生儿育女。但温蒂与彼得潘的约定却继续有效。这个约定代代传承，在温蒂·达林的女儿、孙女每一代女孩身上应验。每当温蒂后代中的女孩长大成人的时候，彼得潘就会造访，提起不要成年的约定，每一个女孩都要经历去无忧无虑的梦幻岛，还是回到充满烦恼的现实中的抉择。到了第三代，达林家又有一位名为温蒂的女孩要长大了，这一次她决定彻底让幻想世界和现实分离，永远地离开彼得潘，勇敢长大。
