因入室盗窃被判刑2年的迈克斯刑满释放后没有工作，靠在饭店洗盘子维持生活。他以前的合作伙伴也是他的女友艾米开了一家踢踏舞学习班，和一群老踢踏舞演员生活在一起。迈克斯找到他们，希望生活可以重新开始，却发现艾米身边一直有个百老汇导演在追求她，迈克斯一时间不知该加入还是离开。

曾经找迈克斯协助盗窃的犯罪团伙又找到了他，他们看中的就是迈克斯敏捷的身手和在高空盗窃时稳健的步伐，当然这一切都是练习踢踏舞打下的基础。面对轻易就可以赚到手的大笔钞票和自己深爱的踢踏舞，迈克斯进退两难。

迈克斯到百老汇试镜却被那个追求艾米的导演指责动作不规范，迈克斯一气之下把舞鞋扔到河里，他发誓今后都不会再跳舞，并选择接受盗窃团伙的请求去偷窃钻石，让自己大发一笔。

但迈克斯的心里却根本放不下踢踏舞，即使是在密室里开保险柜，他的耳边仍有踢踏舞的节奏响个不停。迈克斯放弃了到手的钻石，决心回到...
