◎简　　介

莫塞斯（瑞安·奥尼尔 Ryan O'Neal 饰）并不是一个本分的商人，即使干的是推销圣经的行当，也并不能阻止他使用一些上不了台面的手段。一场车祸夺取了莫塞斯的情人的性命，情人留下的一个小女儿埃迪（塔图姆·奥尼尔 Tatum O'Neal 饰）成了莫塞斯的负担。在向肇事者要得200美元后，莫塞斯决定将埃迪送往她的姨妈家去。

在路上，埃迪展现了她天才般的口才和推销才能，让莫塞斯大赚了一笔，这对假父女之间也产生了真感情。然而，得意忘形的两人不慎掉入了一个圈套之中。一番波折之后，有惊无险的二人终于抵达了终点，但看着即将离自己而去的埃迪，一种名叫“不舍”的情感充满了莫塞斯的内心。
