冯迪索再度扮演那个亦正亦邪、身世如谜一般的反英雄人物雷迪克。这五年来他一直在银河边陲地带的荒凉星球自我放逐，躲避为了领取高额悬赏金到处抓拿他的星际佣兵。现在，这个声名狼藉的星际逃犯来到一个名为希利昂的行星，那是一个融合多种文化的先进社会，但是一群狂热份子的领袖大元帅麦薛（科姆费尔饰）却率领一批被称为“死亡兵团”的大军侵略这个和平的星球，他最终的目标则是以他的强大军队征服人类世界。雷迪克最后还是逃不过星际佣兵的追捕，被放逐到一个气候恶劣极端的地底监狱，那儿的白天就像是置身于火山口一般炙热，黑夜却像身在北极冰圈一样寒冷，他在那儿遇到一名曾和他有过一段过去的女子卡拉（艾莉莎黛娃洛丝饰），他为了让他自己和卡拉重获自由之身，一路闯到大元帅麾下死亡兵团的指挥舰上，这两人展开一场惊天动地的超世纪大对决，他们的胜负将决定人类未来的命运。
