◎简　　介

小报编辑Bill Bradford实际上是国税局的的代理人，他的任务是寻找逃税证据扳倒黑老大Alexander Carston。

他了解到Carston的分类账由他的秘书Julie Gardner以特殊密码记录。Julie目击了一个出卖她老板的人被谋杀，Bill借此劝说她离职，而Julie意识到自己已经知道得太多了。

地区检察官Roger Quinn设法让被害人的伙伴出庭作证，但是Carston得知后谋杀了证人。Julie作为重要证人被捕，并翻译了账本，但是就在出庭前被Carston的人绑架了。Bill用计让Carston带他到Julie处，警察借机尾随。Julie最终出庭并使Carston入狱，而她也接受了Bill的求婚。
