加里·奥德曼曾经公开表示，他之所以会出演《空军一号》一类片中的狗屎角色，就是因为好莱坞的丰厚薪水能够让他有能力拍自己的电影。虽然时至今日，他自编自导的影片只有《切勿吞食》这一部，但却已经有了匹敌迈克·李的阴郁风采。和《不可撤消》一样，片中集中了毒品、强奸、暴力等等极端因素，但故事的发展靠的不是经典的“矛盾冲突”，而是由伦敦南部上班族的生活琐碎，瘾君子与酒鬼的生活状态杂乱拼凑在一起后慢慢完成的。其中充斥着多重口音，理解上也许会有困难，无论如何，情节让人如此筋疲力尽的电影相信不会有多少人会反复观看。
