这部剧集是上世纪九十年代最流行的情景喜剧《Seinfeld》的主创之一拉里·大卫(Larry meijubar.net David)自编自演，根据他在洛杉矶影艺圈的生活创造的喜剧。他把《Seinfeld》的风格推向极端化。HBO因是有线电视所以不需要很大的观众圈，所以HBO上的剧集常常风格独具。《抑制热情》显得特别生活化，很是写意，有很多现场发挥，刚开始播时观众圈不大，之后开始名声见长。拉里·大卫凭此剧获艾美奖2000年度喜剧类剧集最佳男主角提名。

本剧是根据拉里-大卫当初在洛杉矶演艺圈的亲身经历改变而成，并由大卫自编自演而成的喜剧。把《Seinfeld》的风格推向了极端化。通过《抑制热情》让观众看到了大卫的正直、大方和谦虚，这位创作大师通过HBO带给观众无数的欢笑。而剧情游弋在真实与虚构之间，大卫和演员们把真实的洛杉矶生活呈现在银幕上，就仿佛有一架...
